Meeting of the Free Minds

Teens are teaming up with librarians to create an awesome new magazine of their art & writings and your ideas are welcome!

Join us at the RJK middle school library on Thursdays at 2:15 or submit your writings/artwork to Ms. S (RJK librarian) or Cheryl Jones (E.B. Crawford Public Librarian) via email at cshelton@rcls to have your work considered regardless of your availability for meetings.

This magazine is created completely by teens. The first issue will be published in June and we will publish two issues per year going forward. For more information call Cheryl at845-794-4660 ext 5.

Chess Club is a program hosted once a month by the library on the second Saturday of each month. During chess club, players of any age and ability level are welcome to come and play. We will have 3-4 chess sets available. This program is not led by an instructor.

This is a time for teens (9-12th grade) who need guidance with research/writing/editing to come and get help. Do you need help finding and evaluating sources? Not sure how to word something? Need some help making your point clear or figure out a thesis for a paper? Just want someone to read over your college essays and give some feedback? This is the program for you. Stop in to the Youth Services Librarians office during this time to get help with all of this and more. Call 845-794-4660 ext 8 or email cshelton@rcls.org if you have any questions.

Have you heard of the mystery room craze sweeping the nation? The library is jumping on the bandwagon and hosting our own escape games for kids and teens each month! An escape game consists of puzzles, clues, and other problem-solving exercises that groups work together to solve before the clock runs out.

Stop in any time between 5 and 7pm Friday June 1st and Monday June 11th to learn more about volunteering at the library this summer. Get a jump start on your volunteer hours for next year, gain valuable job experience, meet new people, work in a fun environment, and more.

These meetings are only for information. You are not committed to volunteer until you fill out our application and go through volunteer orientation.

Free Practice SAT

Free Practice SAT

The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library in Monticello will be offering a free practice SAT exam for teens on Saturday, March 17th at 11am. The test, proctored by leading test prep agency, Princeton Review, will take approximately 4 hours. Space is limited and registration is required. To register please call the library at 845-794-4660 ext. 5. Students are expected to bring their own pencils and calculators. If you do not have pencils or a calculator, contact the youth services librarian and we will do our best to assist.

After the exam, Princeton Review will contact each student with a detailed score report including analysis of strengths and weaknesses and recommended plan for improvement. Space will fill up fast. Call now to reserve your spot. This free practice exam will take place once in the fall and once in the spring of each year
