  • Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library 479 Broadway Monticello, NY, 12701 United States (map)

What is permaculture and how can you use it to improve your life?

Come join Christopher Harrison, P.E., principal at Harrison Re-Gen, as he gives an introduction to what permaculture is and how it can be applied to our most basic needs of food, water, and shelter.  This program will cover: a working definition of what permaculture is (and what it is not), basic tools of land/system assessment and design, achieving huge energy savings by applying permaculture thinking to building construction, and using permaculture to develop alternative social and economic arrangements and practices that build resilience and regeneration.

No registration required.

About the presenter:

Christopher Harrison, P.E., is a NYS licensed civil engineer and the principal of Harrison Re-Gen, a business focused on helping clients build more resilient, vibrant, and ecologically diverse landscapes that can provide any combination of "food, fuel, fiber, fodder, fertilizers, farmaceuticals, and fun" (quote attributed to Dave Jacke) to their inhabitants, while retooling the built environment to better capture and utilize natural energy flows in order to maximize efficiency.  Prior to starting his business, he worked as a consulting engineer on capital construction projects within NYC's water and waste water facilities, developing a specialization in storm water management and water-related regulatory compliance.  Christopher spends a fair portion of his time putting his ideas into practice through constantly developing his family's 2.25 acre homestead in Warwick, NY, where they live in a retrofitted house they heat with less than 2 cords of wood a year and passive heat from the sun, provide a good portion of their firewood from woodlot and tree hedge management, fruit and vegetables from home organic gardens, and fresh eggs (and compost production) from a backyard chicken flock.
