Oliver King Presents: "The Lessons of the Hour"

  • Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library 479 Broadway Monticello, NY, 12701 United States (map)

Presentation via ZOOM

In honor of Fredrick Douglass’ 204th Birthday and the celebration of Black History, local actor and playwright Oliver King performs an excerpt from Douglass’ most electrifying orations entitled ‘The Lessons of the Hour’ “The Lessons of the Hour”.

This speech was originally delivered to the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. on January 9, 1894.  Douglass focuses on lynching, suffrage, colonization, and refutes the premise that African-Americans were responsible for the racial tensions in our country at that time.
