Marvin Rappaport, whose family owned the Delano Hotel, will moderate a lively and informative discussion, and viewers will have an opportunity to ask questions or share their personal remembrances. The E.B. Crawford Public Library presents this program virtually, as we remember the hey-day of the Catskills and reminisce about all the sports greats who frequented our many hotels to put on an exhibition, talk about their sports careers, relax at the pool or mix and mingle with guests. There was probably nowhere else in the world where you could see, hear, watch and speak to so many sports stars in one place. Where else could you go for a vacation and see fighters Muhammed Ali and Joe Frazier training, hear Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris and Tom Seaver speaking about baseball, watch Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Dave Bing and Walt Frazier playing basketball, meet hockey greats Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemeiux, tennis champs Billie Jean King and John McEnroe and watch Arnold Palmer playing golf? Answer: visit the Borscht Belt in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. The panel will include those who grew up at family hotels and witnessed this sports extravaganza first hand: Mitchell Etess of Grossingers, Mark Kutsher of Kutsher's Country Club, Steve White, tennis pro at the Concord Hotel and Alan Barrish, former director of the Ethelbert B. Crawford Library and trivia maven.
