Baseball In American Culture
Baseball has been called the Great American Pastime because of its popularity with young and old and due to it being played in every area of our country (and even wherever GIs were stationed in WWII). However, baseball is also a business and we have seen players' salaries rise exponentially and the value of baseball teams explode in recent years to where they now sell for billions of dollars. Yet the game of baseball remains essentially the same as when it became our first professional sport in 1871 and it can be seen on every school yard, ball field and municipal park across the country. Learn what accounts for baseball's enduring impact on American culture in this virtual presentation by noted lecturer Evan Weiner.
