Trustee Meeting Minutes for May 18, 2017

Approved June 15, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 6:03 pm by President Lynn Skolnick.  Other members present included Marvin Rappaport, Connie Keller and Steve Sharoff.  Absent were Christine Cavello, Marcia Raponi and Sari Rosenheck.

Lynn called for a motion to approve the minutes of April 19, 2017. Marvin moved to accept the minutes as presented, Steve seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.  Lynn approved the vouchers for bills to be paid and moved to accept. Steve seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.  Connie moved to pay all bills presented and Marvin seconded and it passed unanimously.

Correspondence received this month included a very gracious note from Robert and Stephanie Heigh complimenting the recent library program with the Irish fiddler. Lynn announced that the lovely stained glass window placed above the library entrance was a gift of Stanley Levinson, longtime resident of Monticello.

Director’s Report

A separate director’s report is attached hereto. Items discussed included Code of Conduct policy which was moved by Steve and seconded by Marvin. After discussion it was adopted unanimously and staff was asked to make any necessary edits after review by counsel.

The Health Care Policy was proposed for amendment to call for all staff, including new hires, to pay 5% of their respective monthly health insurance premium supplied by the library.

Lynn asked board member to attend the monthly meetings of and events sponsored by the Friends of EBCPL.  Lynn moved and Connie seconded and this motion was adopted unanimously. There will be a Friends Membership Renewal Reception Tuesday, June 13.

Friends of the Garden, Sullivan County cleaned up the bioswale along Prince St. and offered to help will upgrading/replacing some of the plants in Vera’s Story Garden.

Steve moved and Connie seconded a motion to accept the bid of Mountain Valley Landscaping for our Phase 2 landscaping project.

Landscaping

We learned from DASNY that there is approximately $147,000 left from our bonding funds part of which may be used for landscaping.  More on that later.

Program Committee

We are primarily set for June programming.  Still a couple of openings in July: 6 and 20.  Speakers include John Conway, Richie Chiger, Ira Simon and Rifka Kreiter.  While many of our events are well attended, we are looking into added publicity for our programming including possible paid radio spots.
